Fall Service Cleanup on The James River by BSA Troop 443

BSA Troop 443 out of Richmond (headed up by Scoutmaster Tony Conte) did a huge tire cleanup on the James River on Saturday, September 23 as part of the "Fall Renaissance" cleanup effort promoted by the Conservation and Recreation Department of Virginia. These volunteers focused on removing unsightly discarded tires from a three mile section of The James River. River cleanups such as this one are conducted by James River Runners and various participants each year to remove debris that moves in from upstream after periods of high water. Due to continued efforts by these community service minded organzations to keep the river clean, this particular trash pickup removed unsighty tire debris which is extremely difficult to extricate from the river. The clean up surely did a great deal to return The James River back to the pristine conditions that we all appreciate!
Thanks so much to the men of BSA Troop 443 for their tremendous efforts in removing these tires. It was an effort that was above and beyond what we had expected. The waters of The James River are now cleaner than ever before! A special thanks goes out to Matt Smith and staff of the Albemarle County Parks and Recreation Department for coodinating the proper disposal of the litter.
